New Paper in our Library: Accessing NOAA Weather Data from Within SAS

With severe weather making recent headlines almost daily, we thought it would be a good time to discuss how weather can be incorporated into analytical and machine learning models.  Weather conditions can significantly impact business operations, and understanding these impacts through data can drive better decision-making.

For a glimpse of how weather data can help, check out Weather Data in Analytics, which demonstrates practical applications of weather data in different scenarios.  Additionally, our blog post on adding weather to IoT data explores how integrating weather information can enhance the value of IoT datasets.

To further support our clients, particularly users of SAS Software, we have placed in our library, “Retrieving NOAA Weather Data through the NOAA API in SAS.”  This technical document provides a step-by-step guide on how to retrieve and process weather data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) using SAS.

We hope this technical paper will help you introduce the explainability of weather in your analytics projects.  That said, the incorporation of weather data does pose some challenges and pitfalls, such as those described in this blog post.  We can help you work through the ins and outs of bringing in weather data, whether it be raw, freely available data, or highly processed measures from a vendor.  In some cases, we have code ready to go to extract from data sources and merge into yours.
